DIOCESAN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Additionally, our local diocese receives support through the Annual Catholic Appeal and, in partnership with the Universal Church, organizes six annual special collections dedicated to supporting specific international Church activities.
Annual Catholic Appeal: The 2025 Annual Catholic Appeal enables the Diocese of San Diego to fund our pastoral center ministry offices and programs that help our community members to live their faith.
Lenten Collection: This collection supports the work of Catholic Relief Services, the Church in Africa, and the Church in Latin America.
Peter’s Pence Collection: Held in June, this collection provides the Holy Father with the resources to carry out crucial charitable works, benefiting those most in need—victims of war, oppression, and disasters.
Missionary Appeal: Proceeds go to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and related organizations, helping fund Mission Seminaries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
World Mission Sunday: Observed each October, this day is dedicated to praying for and financially supporting the Church’s missionaries worldwide. These faithful men and women bring practical, emotional, and spiritual care to communities, children, and families in desperate situations, shining the light of Christ into the darkest circumstances.
National Needs: Collected annually in November, this offering supports Black and Indian Missions, Catholic Home Missions, the Catholic Communication Campaign, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic University of America.
Retired Religious: This annual collection supports the Retirement Fund for Religious, providing assistance for retired nuns, brothers, and priests.
