Welcome to the Music Ministry page for St. Thérèse of Carmel.
The descriptions of our various music groups are listed below:
St. Thérèse of Carmel Choir (STOC Choir)
The St. Thérèse of Carmel Parish Choir, under the direction of Catherine Marshall, provides liturgical music for the Sunday 9:00 am Mass. Rehearsals are Wednesdays in the church from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to the music of today’s great choral & liturgical composers. All are welcome, no vocal audition is required. We also welcome string, woodwind, and brass instrumentalists to play at the Masses, an audition for instrumentalists is required. The group performs a concert each spring.

The Contemporary Choir
Our Contemporary Choir is all about sharing uplifting spiritual music to our parish and we enjoy beautiful fellowship within our group. Under the leadership of Joey Jamais, the group provides music every Sunday at the 11:00 am Mass. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the chapel.
Youth and Young Adult Choir, "Ruach"
Our Youth and Young Adult Choir, "Ruach," consists of high school-aged through young adult musicians and provides praise & worship music weekly for our Sunday 5:30 pm Mass. Under the direction of Catherine Marshall and Nicky Knuff, the group enjoys a vibrant and prayerful musical community. Instrumentalists and singers of all levels are welcome; rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 4:00 pm.

Men’s Ensemble
Twice a month, our Men’s Ensemble provides liturgical music at the Saturday 4:30 pm Mass, under the direction of Laura Lotz. Rehearsal is once before the scheduled date as well as at 3:15 pm before Mass. There are additional rehearsals prior to Holy Days, (Christmas and Easter). Our instrumental accompanists rehearse with the choir. New members for both the vocal ensemble and instruments are welcome!
SD Chinese Catholic Community (SDCCC) Musicians
Liturgical musicians fo the San Diego Chinese Catholic Community, based at St. Therese of Carmel, serve at the Sunday, 2:00 pm Mass and special liturgies in Mandarin Chinese and English.
Youth Choir
Once a month, our Youth Choir provides music at the Saturday 4:30 pm Mass. The Youth Choir is open to all singers and instrumentalists grades 4th – 8th and serves as gateway ensemble into other parish ensembles upon students promotion to 9th grade. Rehearsals are every other Thursday from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in the church. Members of this ministry receive an introduction to the great liturgical and devotional music of the church; praise and worship, introductory chant and polyphony, and standard repertoire (parish hymnals).
