New Procedures - Quick Reference for Extraordinary Ministers of Communion
IMMEDIATELY UPON ARRIVING AT THE CHURCH
1. Visit the Ministers’ Vestry to check off your name.
2. Check in with the ++ EMC.
3. Review your assignment (Minister of the Bread or Minister of the Cup) NOTE: No one is assigned to a specific location number.
4. Please familiarize yourself with the four locations for Minister of the Bread and the six locations for Minister of the Cup. Where you stand in the sanctuary is the location that you will serve.
5. Please remember to leave enough room for the four Ministers of the Bread to positioned in the first four spots, right to left as you face the altar.
COMMUNION TIME
1. When you leave your seat to move to the sanctuary please make a small, reverent bow towards the altar and step up.
2. DO NOT wait for all EMCs to congregate but rather move up as you approach the sanctuary.
REMINDERS
1. Minister of the Cup “1” and Minister of the Bread “A” will communicate the Choir and all Ministers of Music at all Masses before distribution to the assembly.
2. All ministers please stand in the designated locations on the diagram for distribution.
3. Ministers of the Bread are to move to the “extra” locations (E1, E2) when they are finished if there is a long line in the Presider’s or Deacon’s line(s). NOTE: If you run out of bread please go to the nearest Minister of the Bread (Priest, Deacon or other EMC) to obtain hosts.
4. If you are a Minister of the Precious Blood, please wipe the lip of the chalice with the purificator and turn the chalice at least a quarter turn before offering the cup to the next communicant. Please use different portions of the purificator when wiping the cup.
CUP PURIFYING & CUP WASHING
1. The first Minister of the Cup in the Sacristy will be the designated Cup Washer.
2. All Ministers of the Cup will purify their own cup as they return it to the Sacristy; can ask for help consuming consecrated wine if necessary.
3. Cup Washer is invited to stand in the back of the church by the hallway to the Sacristy to receive the final blessing.
